There is of course as always a social element to all of these events and opportunities to meet other berth holders and the marina team.

The Ipswich Haven Marina team are looking forward to an event filled 2017.

Firstly we are having new CCTV equipment fitted which will give better alround security for the marina and the berth holders.

We also hope to organise several events for 2017, including another tour of the Orwell Navigation Tower and two sailing in company dates which have yet to be deceided. These are just an example of the things we would like to put on for our berth holders this year. 

Dates to put in your diary

This year there will be a Maritime weekend on the 19th and 20th August 2017. The Ipswich Haven team are already thinking of a theme and entertainment but of course if any of the berth holders have any thoughts or contributions then please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the marina team.

The marina team would LIKE to wish everyone a very merry christmas and a happy new year!!!!!!!

end of season laying up supper

Thank you to all the berth holders that attended the laying up supper at the 'Last Anchor' bar and restaurant.  The raffle raised £300 for the chosen charity 'Alzheimer's association' so again a big thank you to everyone who contributed.

Thank you to all the berth holders that will be attending the Ipswich Haven Laying up supper at the 'Last Anchor' on the 26th November.  The response has been very good and the marina team are looking forward to welcoming you all on the evening. 

What a great summer we have had 2016

The weather as been very kind to us having stayed relatively warm right up to the end of October. 

I hope you have all had a good season and we would like to thank all the visting yachts and clubs that came to see us at Ipswich Haven.

If you still feel like a trip up river then please come and see us, we will give you a warm welcome.

The Old Ipswich Haven yacht club has been a great success with several clubs using it for events and gatherings. If you ever want to book the club house please do not hesitate to call the marina office on 01473 236644.

Laying up Supper

We are now taking bookings for the laying up supper this is being held at the 'Last Anchor' on the 26th November 2016.

We have decided to have a posh buffet. The menu will include eight different main courses, two deserts and a glass of proseccco. Soft drinks will of course be available, along with entertainment.

The cost will be £20 a head.

Sail in Company

Thank you to all the berth Holders that attended the Sail in Company on the 17th September to 'Shotley Marina', a great time was had by all.

The next Sailing in Company will be sometime in May 2017, dates to confirm.

The Ipswich Haven Marina team would like to thank everyone that come to enjoy an amazing weekend, the theme was 'Pirates' and with the staff,berth holders and visting clubs all participated in dressing up.

A good time was had by all.

Port of Ipswich and Ipswich Haven Marina aim to be sustainable in their operations and in the marine enviroment interact with nature on a daily basis. We are also responsible for the Wet Dock at Ipswich and are delighted to have the opportunity to work with others to provide this link to the camera feed displaying the activities of our resident peregrine falcons.

ABP operates as a business through six stratgegic pillars, one of which is 'Being good neighbours'. In this context we are delighted to make available this streamed coverage of these magnificent birds and also to be able to highlight our activities at Ipswich Haven at the same time.

ipswich Haven marina news/updates

The marina team hopes you all had a good Easter.

The season is now well underway with many of you starting to put your vessels back in the water.

This year we had a large number of boats overwintering with us, some of them coming from as far away as Canada. The marina team would like to wish all those that stayed with us over the winter and have now left for pastures new, a safe and uneventful journey.

The cheese and wine evening held on the 18th March was a great success with over forty berth holders attending.

Our new security barrier is now in operation and is coded. The refurbishment of the toilets and showers situated in the middle of the marina has now been completed and is fully operational.

Our Next event is a sailing in company with the Ipswich Haven marina team on the 21st May 2016. Our proposed destination is Titchmarsh marinaand will all be having a fish and chip supper. 



The marina team have now organised some dates for the begining of the year.

On the 18th March we have organised a bring your own beer and wine tasting evening. The marina will provide some cheeses and breads and it will be held at the old club house.

A tour of the ONS tower. This is a great opportunity to see first hand how the safety of naviagtion in the river Orwell is managed and provide a chance to ask questions of the lock operation team. 

Another sailing in company for the 21st May. We have two options in mind. Firstly, we could go to Shotley marina or if wishing to go further afield then Bradwell marina. 

This will keep us going until the end of May.

Happy New Year

The Marina Team are looking forward to a very exciting year ahead here at Ipswich Haven Marina.

Wi-Fi has been upgraded and is now secured.

The new barrier is now in operation which has now made the marina more secure, plus the extra LED lighting and power sockets have also been fitted.

The new refurbishment work on the showers situated towards the middle of the  shoreside area should be completed by middle January 2016.

The marina team are looking around May 2016 to organise a sailing in company. 

Annual Berth holders BBQ will also be going ahead towards the end of June. 

Watch this space to confirm up and coming events for 2016.


We are pleased to advise that we have had the go ahead to install a new securiy barrier and new CCTV cameras around the marina. These are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the best security at Ipswich Haven Marina.

These are in addition to the new bridgehead keycoded gates and night security patrols we have had implemented.

Over the winter we intend to carry out some refurbishment work in the showers situated towards the middle of the shoreside area. One of the main tasks will be to completely replace the shower cubicles.

Extra LED lighting and power sockets will be fitted in the new laying up area.


The marina team are already putting some suggested dates togeather for events during 2016.



Ipswich Haven have had a great summer season which was highlighted with two sails in company both to Shotley Marina. The first time was for a fish and chip supper and then later on a BBQ hosted by Shotley marina.

In 2016 we are again planning to do another couple of sailing events along with a coffee morning and get together with the marina team, also we will organise a visit to the lock tower to see how the lock gates works. 

Ipswich Maritime Festival was another fantastic weekend with Ipswich Haven Marina being closely involved in the preperations and included a mini market, singers, BBQ and the best dressed vessel overall, modern or classis.

The laying up suppper has had a great response, so much so that we are plannning to book a bigger venue for next year.


The time is nearly here to lay up vessels for the winter please contact the marina office as soon as possible to book your lift.



Thank you to all our bertholders that attended the annual BBQ on the 26th June, great evening had by all, also a special thanks for helping to raise £744.00 in the raffle plus an extra £250.00 in an auction for the fold up bike orginally donated by Elmys cycles.

This money raised will be going towards more research and support for people with MND through the MND Association.

To remind Ipswich Haven Marina Bertholders you are entiled to seven free visitor nights at ABP Lowestoft Haven Marina.


After another successful maritime festival we would like to thank everyone that came to visit Ipswich Haven Marina and the 'Old Gaffers' for making such a fine display of traditional craft.

Other highlights of the weekend comprised a number of historic vessels moored on Orwell quay, including a V39 steamboat, some classsic thames spritsail barges and the oldest lifeboat, the 'James Stevens No.14.

Terry Corner from the RNLI very kindly judged the best overall classic/modern vessel.

A great time was had by all and a special thanks should go to the Ipswich Haven Marina team, visitors and resident bertholders who helped to make the weekend such a success.

Security gates and developments

We have now fitted security gates at the top of all the gangways. These will have a four-digit code.

Secondly, the ablution block under the main office are now completed. 

Thirdly, extra safety ladders have now been installed through out the marina in addition to those that are already fitted.

We have now installed extra electric points ashore.

Ipswich Lock gates

We can report that Prince Phillip Lock gates are fully operational allowing passage on request.

The Ipswich Haven Yacht Club

We are now very pleased to be able to offer the use of the Ipswich Haven Yacht club to our berth holders, visiting yachts and clubs.

With ten brand new picnic tables, this gives a perfect opportunity to have group picnics and get togeathers

There are occasions when the Orwell Harbour Master issues notice to mariners. These can be anything from buoy movements to Lock Gate closures.

However, all “Notice to Mariners” can be found on line at the following address. 

Then follow the links from the library tab at the top of the page.

Click onto “ABP notice to mariners” and all will be revealed. It’s quite useful to know where to find this information.
